Top Tips for Dealing with a Stress Emergency!

When your stress levels go off the scale, you need to take action urgently. You probably already know some ways of accessing inner calm - here are a few more ideas:

  • Take a walk - around the building, around the car park, better still around the park. If you can, notice all/any growing things around you. Then look to the horizon. Remember that you are part of all of this.
  • Go outside and take some slow steady breaths - focus on the feel of the fresh air entering your nostrils as you breath in and the warm air as you breath out. Notice how your breath connects you with all other living things.
  • Stand up straight, arms, shoulders relaxed and weight evenly balanced between your two feet. Notice whether your weight is on the balls of your feet or the heels. Try to balance that too. Now imagine that there are roots growing out of the soles of your feet, down into the earth. Imagine them going all the way to the centre of the earth. Now as you breathe in, imagine warm golden light being drawn up through your roots into your body. As you breathe out imagine all of your stress draining away down into the earth where it can be recycled.
  • Depending on your mood, put on some soothing, inspirational, or rauccous music - sing and dance along.

Calm, clear and connected

When stress is chronic, you know you need to do something about it. Tai Chi, meditation, chanting, learning to say NO.... You know it makes sense.
