New Year Resolutions 2008

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS:

Re-focus, Re-energise,
& Resolve for 2008

I wonder how many people you look after, in one way or another, every day?

Family, friends, clients, colleagues, staff, … the list can seem endless.

And how many of those resolutions keep popping up year after year – in one form or another?

Too many?

Why This Happens:

It’s tempting to put it down to lack of time, and/or lack of will-power!!

But actually, it’s often more about lukewarm, lack-lustre resolutions, that don’t really inspire you that much. That’s especially a problem when your festive wishes are similar to last year – you’re already feeling discouraged about them. And that’s about as appealing as last year’s champagne!

Plus, if the path to your best life were always smooth and well-paved, things would be so easy. In reality, there are often bogs, pot-holes, fallen trees, and other obstacles to be negotiated. I‘m sure you’ve tried sticking to a new regime, but perhaps, not known what to do when you hit one of these obstacles.

And when stress bites, it’s often too easy to fall back into old habits.

And so many women try to do it alone! (Or with half-hearted support from friends who’d really much rather you stayed in the “let’s have a good moan” club.)

The trouble is, no matter how sure you are on 1st January, keeping your resolve on your own becomes harder the further you get from that New Year clarity.

So …, What Does Work? How CAN you achieve the things you want in 2008?

Here’s what you need:

  1. Red-hot, sparkling “zing-zing” resolutions. Whatever you’re launching, you need to get things going with a bang! That means creating a powerful, full volume, Technicolor vision of what it is you want. Then describing that vision in resolutions that really fizz. AND are heartfelt. Resolutions that describe your dream future in such a compelling fashion, that it becomes much easier to make it happen. This is about more than goal setting - you need to be inspired.
  2. Inner Savvy. The good news is that you already know about a lot of the obstacles in your path. You already know about the things that hold you back, the points where you tend to give up, the usual excuses.

    When you’re savvy about them, you can use that knowledge to help yourself keep moving forward. This is NOT about beating yourself up. It’s about developing a tender understanding of your habits and foibles. And having strategies for dealing with them.
  3. A Plan. You know – milestones, targets, “what I’m going to do first is”… … For some people, planning can feel a bit soulless, so they don’t bother and end up just wandering about. But it needn’t be like this - when it’s done from the heart.
    A plan should support you rather than being something to feel guilty about. It should be like having a route-map that you can rely on, ... a sort of “Sat. Nav.” for your life!! So, when things get a bit flustered, you don’t need to think too hard.
  4. Sustenance. Let’s face it, making life style changes, however small, takes perseverance as well as vision. When work-life balance is already an issue (as it is for most professional women) there may not be a lot of “gas in your tank” to start with. So it makes sense that it’ll need topping up as you go along.
    You need on-going “re-fuelling” – for example, from a “buddy”, a coach, a “mastermind group” – to provide you with support, ideas, help and encouragement. You need sustenance. You need nurturing. So you can follow through on those promises you make to yourself.

When you start inspired - with a plan that actively supports you – you’ll get off to a flying start. Add in people and systems to sustain you over the longer term, and strategies for getting round obstacles and you’ll really get into momentum with it. Long after the memory of the New Year bubbly has faded.

Of course, you could just carry on as you are. (Uninspired, and running on empty?) But if you do, you’re likely to arrive at New Year 2009 still complaining about the same old things. Still dreaming about the life you want.

Wouldn’t you rather look back at 2008 satisfied with what you’d achieved? And living your best life, rather than just an “OK” life?

How It Works

The programme is centred around an intensive “Lift-Off” coaching session, with preliminary exercises and follow-up support. You get:

  1. A set of introductory exercises, supplied via email, that will lay the groundwork for our “Lift-Off” session (Each exercise should take only a short time and should be completed over the few days prior to the session.)
  2. The Lift-Off Session: 1.5 – 2 hours intensive coaching. This is totally confidential, and tailored to your needs. You will leave the session:

    • Clutching your written resolutions for 2008
    • Holding in your heart the commitment and determination to succeed
    • Ready to get started on your personal “next steps” action plan
    • Savvy(!) about the challenges you’ll face – and how to tackle them

  3. The Progress Report Session: Travelling hopefully is all very well, but sometimes you need to take a step back and review how far you’ve come. And, how far there is to go. Feedback from last year’s programme suggested that a follow-up session would be the best way to achieve this. So here it is…
    A 60 minute follow-up coaching session to support you in celebrating your success so far, and in re-committing to the remaining journey. It will also give you something to aim for – and an additional motivating factor – when you know you have to report back to me! It should be scheduled for around 6-8 weeks after the Lift-Off Session.
  4. On-line Support: I really want you to make it happen this year. So between these two sessions, you’ll also have access to that totally confidential, personal and effective coaching support via email.
  5. The programme also includes the stand-alone course: “Motivation – A User’s Guide”. This is a 12 week e-course comprising weekly instalments of the guide sent direct to you by email. It’s in 12 bite-sized instalments, crammed with expert tips and exercises to keep your motivation fired up, well into Spring!!
